about robin’s reach
Robin’s Reach is a Portland area not-for-profit organization that conducts in-field effectiveness monitoring for wetland restoration projects. Our primary goal is to create a data structure that can be used by other not-for-profits, academic institutions and government organization to inform restoration efforts. Our secondary goal is to increase awareness of local environmental issues through community education and outreach.
In non-science words—We count bugs and take water measurements to make sure that well-intended restoration projects have the desired impact.

Community outreach
In the summer of 2018 I had the opportunity to help organize our first community outreach and education event. Hosted by Donnie Vegas, our event illustrated the difference between healthy and unhealthy wetlands by using a game of Bug Bingo to engage attendees.
We pulled water samples from two Portland area streams, examined robustness of macroinvertebrates present in each sample and used the species identification process to play the game. Each square on the bingo cards correlated to a macroinvertebrate present in our samples and winners were able to walk away with prizes generously donated by local businesses.
