About arboriculture

The combined work of Juliette Zulu’s film team and my former boss, Jim Meyers, does a better job at explaining tree work than I could hope to do in print.

In case you didn’t watch that or are still wonder what my thoughts are: Arboriculture is the intersection of trees and humanity. While the classic lumberjack tromps around the forest clear cutting anything that can glean a profit, the modern arborist navigates an urban tightrope while taking special care to balance the interests of the natural world and its inhabitants.

Scientist, daredevil, educator, athlete, naturalist, workhorse, artist—The roles and skills of a dedicated arborist require time and intent to cultivate.

I can only wish that everyone be fortunate as I’ve been—To have built a skill that no one can take from you, to know the feeling of being an expert in your field, to be in the position where you feel like you’ve made a difference. You should really go back to the top of the page and watch the video if you didn’t already…
